Good product management is critical to product success, especially for software-based offerings, as software offers many new degrees of freedom. This not only applies to pure software products, but also to software-intensive systems. In order to make good use of these degrees of freedom, special procedures have been established for the management of software products, for example in the areas of requirements engineering and flexible release planning.
The International Software Product Management Association (ISPMA) has structured these procedures and has defined a programme that is widely used and recognised internationally.
It addresses people who are interested in "Software Product Management" and have at least three years of experience in software-related activities (not necessarily as SPM). In particular, Product Managers, Product Owners and IT Application Managers, as well as other employees who wish to evolve towards becoming Software Product Managers.
The SPM certification is based on ISPMA curricula developed in collaboration with industry and academia.
